Water Saving Week 19 – 23 March, 2018

Did you know that despite abundant rainfall, water supplies in the UK are under pressure? Waterwise warns:

“the UK has less available water per person that most other European countries… and the South of England has less water available per person than some African countries”. (1)

This threatens not only water security for humans, but also that of wildlife and aquatic ecosystems which depends on healthy, abundant riverways.

The UK is one of the highest water consumers, using on average a massive 150 litres per person, per day. Reducing water waste helps protect one of our most vital environmental resources and it saves you money, too.

The main message is simple: use only the water you need.

Environmental concerns are at the heart of everything we do at The Pure H2O Company. We’re proud that our tap water purifiers, kitchen taps and other products help people reduce their environmental impact whilst protecting their health and enjoying their lifestyle.

Quatreau Kitchen Taps: dispensing only what you need, in an instant.
Quatreau Touch instant boiling kitchen tap

Quatreau Touch

Waterwise recommends you don’t boil more water than you need and — we make this easy with our Quatreau range of taps which deliver exactly the amount of boiling water you need, straight into your cup, teapot or saucepan.

There’s no need to waste water whilst you keep your ‘cold’ tap running until it gets cold enough for a refreshing drink, either — just select the Chilled option on Quatreau Touch or Quatreau SmartTap for instant, efficient chilled water.

Water Efficient Tap Water Purifiers
Tap Water Purifier

Water Efficient

Our tap water purifiers don’t just guarantee water purity, providing unlimited drinking water free from the microplastics, pesticides, neurotoxins, hormones, medications and heavy metals found in tap water; they are extremely water efficient, too. In fact, we are the only company to have achieved high levels of water efficiency in our domestic systems.

To get technical, our reverse osmosis (RO) process achieves 2:1 production ratio whilst our reverse osmosis with de-ionisation (RODI) process achieves 3:1. Additionally, we use unique, high-quality micro switches in our systems to ensure water efficiency, whilst RO systems from other companies only use basic mechanical valves which are much less efficient. Our purifiers also have an inbuilt intelligent management system that minimises water use whilst maximising water purity.

Water treated in this way is not only water-efficient, pure and safe, it’s also much more environmentally friendly than bottled water and its associated single-use plastics pollution, carbon footprint, air-miles and resource degradation.

So, it’s a win-win on the environment front with The Pure H2O Company’s tap water purifiers and multifunction and smart kitchen taps.

Find out more at www.PureH2O.co.uk, call us on 01483 617 000 or email customerservice@pureh2o.co.uk — we’d be delighted to help you protect your health with pure water, maximise your lifestyle and reduce your environmental impact, too.

Bottled Water Contaminated By Plastics

BOTTLED WATER CONTAMINATED BY PLASTICS

If the environmental impact of single-use plastic pollution wasn’t enough to convince you that bottled water is a poor choice of drinking water, the latest news that plastic fibres contaminate over 90% of bottled water brands might be the final piece of information you need.

Analysis of 259 bottles from 19 locations in nine countries across 11 different brands found an average of 325 plastic particles for every litre of water being sold. (1)

The World Health Organisation is so concerned that it has launched a review into the effects of plastic ingestion on human health. Bruce Gordon, from the WHO, told the BBC:

“When we think about the composition of the plastic, whether there might be toxins in it, to what extent they might carry harmful constituents, what actually the particles might do in the body – there’s just not the research there to tell us”. (2)

What we do already know – from research on wild animals – is that microplastics attract bacteria and absorb toxic chemicals, which are released into the body.

Clearly, it’s time to stop buying plastic bottled water.

Tap water contaminated, too.

You might think that tap water is the safer and more environmentally friendly option. Sadly, that’s not the case; back in September we learned that plastic contamination is widespread in UK tap water, too (read that blog post here):

Whilst the UK has amongst the lowest levels of plastic contamination, 72% of samples of UK tap water have been found to contain plastic fibres. (3)

Furthermore, tap water contains a whole host of other contaminants and impurities. Regular readers of our blog will know that tap water carries neurotoxic micro-organisms called cyanobacteria and the metal copper, both of which are associated with the development of Alzheimer’s disease.

Tap water is also known to be contaminated by pesticides, hormone and medication traces and heavy metals. You don’t have to ingest these contaminants – you can enjoy pure water.

Reverse Osmosis Water Purifiers Remove Microplastics

Jug filters are not capable of removing plastics or microplastics. Reverse osmosis is the only suitable treatment method for removing plastics from your drinking water; it’s the foundation of our technologically advanced tap water purifiers.

Either of our 3 models remove microplastics and other man-made as well as naturally occurring impurities. They’re convenient and compact, fitting under a kitchen sink. They’re environmentally-friendly, too; reducing food miles, carbon footprint and single-use plastic pollution compared to bottled water. They’re also budget-friendly, starting at only £29 per month with our rental option (you can also buy outright).

Pure H2O Co. Purifiers Guarantee Water Purity

Our purifiers are installed up by our specially trained team of engineers who service your system once a year to make sure it continues to deliver the purest, safest water possible, day in, day out, in unlimited quantities.

Out and about? Visit these venues to enjoy Pure H2O pure water.

We recently heard from our friends at Hello Love on Southampton Row that they not only use Pure H2O in their juice bar and tea house, but that they also offer glasses of our pure water free of charge to anyone undergoing treatment for cancer [more about the inspiration behind the Hello Love Foundation below]. So, we thought we’d start compiling a list of everywhere that you can drink Pure H2O pure water when you’re out and about.

Firstly, a reminder of what Pure H2O pure water is and why you might want to choose it over other waters. Our clever reverse osmosis water purifiers remove all the impurities and contaminants found in tap water, resulting in pure water which tastes amazing, doesn’t compromise your health, and means you can take an environmentally responsible approach to enjoying water – compared to drinking water from a plastic bottle.

Of course you can ask us to install a tap water purifier in your home, office, cafe, studio, restaurant, AirBnB – anywhere you want unlimited healthy, safe, delicious water on tap – and you can either rent or buy outright.

But if you’re not quite ready to take the plunge*, or if you’re out and about and feeling thirsty, here’s where you can find pure water on tap (and do tell the lovely people behind the counter that the Pure H2O Company sent you!):

Pure H2O Co. Purifiers Remove Plastic Fibres Found in UK Tap Water

Recent news reports about plastic fibres contaminating UK tap water needn’t concern Pure H2O customers, as all models of the company’s purifiers completely remove plastic particles.

Researchers recently found that billions of people globally are drinking water contaminated by plastic particles.(1) Whilst the UK has amongst the lowest levels of plastic contamination, 72% of samples of UK tap water have been found to contain plastic fibres.

“We’ve known about this problem for over 20 years and have developed water treatment systems which, using the Reverse Osmosis process, remove 100% of plastic particles from tap water”, says Pure H2O Co. M.D. Roger Wiltshire.

In fact, the Reverse Osmosis process is the only suitable method of reducing these contaminants.

Dr Anne Marie Mahon at the Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology, who conducted the research, says: “We don’t know what the [health] impact is and for that reason we should follow the precautionary principle…”.(2)

As if ingesting plastic fibres was not bad enough, research on wild animals has shown that micro plastics attract bacteria and absorb toxic chemicals which are then released into the body once ingested.

Water treatment plants clearly aren’t capable of removing plastic fibres, let alone micro plastics. Bottled water is not the solution – samples tested in the US also showed plastic contamination. Added to which, the manufacture, distribution and disposal of plastic bottled water is highly damaging to the environment.

Whilst experts call for urgent research on the health implications of plastic water contamination, you can take action today to protect your and your family’s health. Install a Pure H2O tap water purifier; any of our 3 models remove 100% of plastic particles along with all the other contaminants and impurities found in tap water including petrochemical derivatives, hormones, medications and pesticides.

Call us on 01483 617 000 to enquire about installation, pricing and our rental option. We would be happy to advise you on safeguarding your health through pure water. You can also email customerservice@pureh2o.co.uk or visit our website for further information: www.PureH2O.co.uk

Organic September: Pure H2O is the equivalent of organic food.

This month, The Soil Association is on a mission to spread the word about the many benefits of organic farming and food, with a call to Organic Your September.

For anyone looking to protect their health and promote environmental sustainability, wildlife biodiversity and animal welfare, organic food is the obvious choice: meat and dairy is free range and free from routine use of antibiotics, crops are grown with fewer pesticides and are never genetically modified. And, as Hugh Fernley Whittingstall points out: “it just tastes better”(1).

If you choose to eat organic, drinking pure water is the next logical step.  Tap water is full of the very chemicals, hormones and pesticides you seek to avoid with organic food, bottled water is hugely degrading to the environment.

By contrast, tap water purified with a Pure H2O Reverse Osmosis (RO) or Reverse Osmosis wth De-Ionisation (RODI) under-sink purifier is the safe, healthy and environmentally responsible choice of water, giving you unlimited quantities of up to 99.99% pure water.

We believe there are no acceptable levels of contaminants and impurities in the water you drink. That’s why we say that Pure H2O is the equivalent of organic food:

Pure H2O is free from pesticides, hormones and medications. Did you know that tap water contains all of these? Our purifiers remove them, so your health is never compromised by the water you drink, complimenting your efforts to nourish your body with organic food which is free from these unnecessary toxins.

Pure H2O is kinder to the environment. Plastic bottled water has been described as ‘one of the biggest marketing tricks of the century’(2); sold as better tasting or purer than tap water, it is in fact no better and is hugely detrimental to the environment. From the amount of water, oil, coal and gas required to produce the bottles, the CO2 footprint to transport them, the marine pollution and harm to marine life that occurs when they are discarded, plastic bottled water degrades and pollutes the environment.

Pure H2O is the complete replacement to plastic bottled water; it reduces your carbon footprint, prevents plastic pollution and helps you do your bit for environmental sustainability. What’s more, it is genuinely pure, and many people prefer the taste of Pure H2O when compared to tap water.

Pure H2O is water as nature intended; just as organic food is food as nature intended. Pure H2O is free from all the man-made impurities and contaminants which are found in tap water, including plastic fibres, petrochemical derivatives, and run-off from pesticide-heavy non-organic farming practices.

Pure H2O is trustworthy. Many people trust that organic farmers care about the environment, wildlife biodiversity, animal welfare and food quality. Sadly, UK tap water authorities cannot be trusted to produce safe, clean water – just think of the various ‘no drink’ or ‘boil’ orders issued in the UK each year, not to mention the ‘acceptable’ levels of contaminants and impurities allowed in tap water. And we know that the activities of bottled water companies degrade natural resources. By contrast, people trust The Pure H2O Co.’s purifiers to consistently produce safe, clean water and trust us to reduce our environmental impact and maximise the energy efficiency of our products wherever possible.

Remember, if you’re going to eat organic food, or choose natural cosmetics and toiletries to reduce your exposure to potentially harmful chemicals, impurities and toxins, Pure H2O is the only choice of drinking water.

Fortunately, it needn’t cost the earth. You can rent one of our tap water purifiers from around £1 a day (or buy outright). Call us on 01483 617 000 to discuss installation and we can answer any queries you might have, or visit www.PureH2O.co.uk to find out more.

Earth Overshoot Day 2017

Plastic bottled water contributes to humanity’s outstripping of natural resources. Reduce your environmental impact and avoid plastic bottle pollution by switching to Pure H2O.

Humankind began consuming more natural resources than the Earth is capable of regenerating back in the early 1970s. The day on which this happens is known as Earth Overshoot Day (previously Ecological Debt Day).

By the 1990s, Overshoot Day was reached in December. By the year 2000, 1 November. This year, 2017, we outstripped Earth’s natural resource capacity earlier than ever before: 2nd August.

We are depleting natural resources at an alarming rate and bottled water is contributing to this problem.

Plastic bottles require a massive amount of natural resources to manufacture, they take many food miles to distribute and, once discarded, pollute waterways. We have reached a crisis point; the Mayor of London describes Londoner’s use of bottled water as “out of control”.

Reducing the use of plastics is one key way to reduce your impact on the environment.

We understand that many people buy plastic bottled water because they feel it tastes better than tap water, because they feel it is healthier or they find it convenient.

We have the answer. Our under-sink tap water purifiers answer all these needs and remove the need to buy plastic bottled water again, by delivering unlimited pure water on tap in your home.

Pure H2O delivers three key benefits:

  1. Tastes amazing, just as nature intended
  2. Healthy and free from the impurities and contaminants found in tap water
  3. Environmentally friendly, avoids plastic bottles completely

For hydration on the go, simply fill up a plastic-free re-usable water bottle from the PureH2O faucet installed with your purifier and take it with you when you go out for the day.

Of course, many people buy bottled water because they enjoy drinking sparkling water.

If you prefer chilled or sparkling water, you can enjoy that more conveniently than ever before by combining a purifier with our new Quatreau SmartTap™ drinks station which gives chilled, sparkling and / or ambient water at the touch of a button. Or  Quatreau Touch, our touchscreen tap that installs over your kitchen sink for boiling, chilled and sparkling water, hand and dish washing.

So, there’s really no need to ever buy plastic bottled water again.

We take steps to reduce the environmental impact of producing our taps, too by manufacturing them within 10 miles of our base in Surrey using solid 316 stainless steel for lower environmental impact compared to plating. And with energy efficiency in mind, the boiling function of Quatreau Touch uses 33% less energy than other hot water taps.

Call us now on 01483 617 000 or email customerservice@pureh2o.co.uk We’d be delighted to help you reduce your environmental impact and advise on installation of a tap water purifier and / or multifunction tap in your home, office or hospitality venue.

Faecal Bacteria Found in Ice in UK Coffee Chains

Undercover investigators for BBC Watchdog found faecal bacteria in ice served at Costa, Starbucks and Caffe Nero.

Faecal bacteria can cause diarrhoea if ingested, which is especially problematic for those with compromised immune systems.

Worse still, the presence of faecal bacteria indicates that other disease-causing pathogens may be present, as microbiologist Philip Tierno explains:

“Where there are fecal bacteria present it is an indicator that there could be other germs….  like Norovirus or hepatitis A or Salmonella”.(1)

How did this happen? Expert Rob Kingsley, explains:

“It is an indicator that somewhere there has been some kind of breakdown in hygiene or the source of the water used for this ice.” (2)

What can you do to protect yourself at home, and how can you ensure your workplace  is clean and safe?

  1. Remove bacteria at source. Our water purification systems remove the faecal bacteria present in tap water, so if you have one at home, your office or food/drink business, you are already removing it at source. If not, you can purchase or rent one now, from as little as £1 a day.
  1. Correct hand washing. Clean hands prevent the spread the bacteria, so follow the World Health Organisation’s procedure for correct hand washing. Click here to view. (3)

Starbucks predicts that 50% of its beverage sales will be cold drinks by 2021(4), so it’s especially important that food and drink businesses take all steps to protect their customers, staff and reputations from faecal contamination in ice, water and on surfaces.

We’d like to reassure our domestic and commercial customers that our water purification systems remove faecal bacteria at source (along with a myriad of other bacteria, organisms and contaminants), providing extra peace of mind.

If you’d like advice on installing a Pure H2O tap water purifier at home, your office or hospitality venue, call us now on 01483 617 000 or visit our website www.PureH2O.co.uk We’d be delighted to advise you.
