Bottled Water Contaminated By Plastics

If the environmental impact of single-use plastic pollution wasn’t enough to convince you that bottled water is a poor choice of drinking water, the latest news that plastic fibres contaminate over 90% of bottled water brands might be the final piece of information you need.

Analysis of 259 bottles from 19 locations in nine countries across 11 different brands found an average of 325 plastic particles for every litre of water being sold. (1)

The World Health Organisation is so concerned that it has launched a review into the effects of plastic ingestion on human health. Bruce Gordon, from the WHO, told the BBC:

“When we think about the composition of the plastic, whether there might be toxins in it, to what extent they might carry harmful constituents, what actually the particles might do in the body – there’s just not the research there to tell us”. (2)

What we do already know – from research on wild animals – is that microplastics attract bacteria and absorb toxic chemicals, which are released into the body.

Clearly, it’s time to stop buying plastic bottled water.

Tap water contaminated, too.

You might think that tap water is the safer and more environmentally friendly option. Sadly, that’s not the case; back in September we learned that plastic contamination is widespread in UK tap water, too (read that blog post here):

Whilst the UK has amongst the lowest levels of plastic contamination, 72% of samples of UK tap water have been found to contain plastic fibres. (3)

Furthermore, tap water contains a whole host of other contaminants and impurities. Regular readers of our blog will know that tap water carries neurotoxic micro-organisms called cyanobacteria and the metal copper, both of which are associated with the development of Alzheimer’s disease.

Tap water is also known to be contaminated by pesticides, hormone and medication traces and heavy metals. You don’t have to ingest these contaminants – you can enjoy pure water.

Reverse Osmosis Water Purifiers Remove Microplastics

Jug filters are not capable of removing plastics or microplastics. Reverse osmosis is the only suitable treatment method for removing plastics from your drinking water; it’s the foundation of our technologically advanced tap water purifiers.

Either of our 3 models remove microplastics and other man-made as well as naturally occurring impurities. They’re convenient and compact, fitting under a kitchen sink. They’re environmentally-friendly, too; reducing food miles, carbon footprint and single-use plastic pollution compared to bottled water. They’re also budget-friendly, starting at only £29 per month with our rental option (you can also buy outright).

Pure H2O Co. Purifiers Guarantee Water Purity

Our purifiers are installed up by our specially trained team of engineers who service your system once a year to make sure it continues to deliver the purest, safest water possible, day in, day out, in unlimited quantities.

Pure H2O Co. Purifiers Remove Plastic Fibres Found in UK Tap Water

Recent news reports about plastic fibres contaminating UK tap water needn’t concern Pure H2O customers, as all models of the company’s purifiers completely remove plastic particles.

Researchers recently found that billions of people globally are drinking water contaminated by plastic particles.(1) Whilst the UK has amongst the lowest levels of plastic contamination, 72% of samples of UK tap water have been found to contain plastic fibres.

“We’ve known about this problem for over 20 years and have developed water treatment systems which, using the Reverse Osmosis process, remove 100% of plastic particles from tap water”, says Pure H2O Co. M.D. Roger Wiltshire.

In fact, the Reverse Osmosis process is the only suitable method of reducing these contaminants.

Dr Anne Marie Mahon at the Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology, who conducted the research, says: “We don’t know what the [health] impact is and for that reason we should follow the precautionary principle…”.(2)

As if ingesting plastic fibres was not bad enough, research on wild animals has shown that micro plastics attract bacteria and absorb toxic chemicals which are then released into the body once ingested.

Water treatment plants clearly aren’t capable of removing plastic fibres, let alone micro plastics. Bottled water is not the solution – samples tested in the US also showed plastic contamination. Added to which, the manufacture, distribution and disposal of plastic bottled water is highly damaging to the environment.

Whilst experts call for urgent research on the health implications of plastic water contamination, you can take action today to protect your and your family’s health. Install a Pure H2O tap water purifier; any of our 3 models remove 100% of plastic particles along with all the other contaminants and impurities found in tap water including petrochemical derivatives, hormones, medications and pesticides.

Earth Overshoot Day 2017

Plastic bottled water contributes to humanity’s outstripping of natural resources. Reduce your environmental impact and avoid plastic bottle pollution by switching to Pure H2O.

Humankind began consuming more natural resources than the Earth is capable of regenerating back in the early 1970s. The day on which this happens is known as Earth Overshoot Day (previously Ecological Debt Day).

By the 1990s, Overshoot Day was reached in December. By the year 2000, 1 November. This year, 2017, we outstripped Earth’s natural resource capacity earlier than ever before: 2nd August.

We are depleting natural resources at an alarming rate and bottled water is contributing to this problem.

Plastic bottles require a massive amount of natural resources to manufacture, they take many food miles to distribute and, once discarded, pollute waterways. We have reached a crisis point; the Mayor of London describes Londoner’s use of bottled water as “out of control”.

Reducing the use of plastics is one key way to reduce your impact on the environment.

We understand that many people buy plastic bottled water because they feel it tastes better than tap water, because they feel it is healthier or they find it convenient.

We have the answer. Our under-sink tap water purifiers answer all these needs and remove the need to buy plastic bottled water again, by delivering unlimited pure water on tap in your home.

Pure H2O delivers three key benefits:

  1. Tastes amazing, just as nature intended
  2. Healthy and free from the impurities and contaminants found in tap water
  3. Environmentally friendly, avoids plastic bottles completely

For hydration on the go, simply fill up a plastic-free re-usable water bottle from the PureH2O faucet installed with your purifier and take it with you when you go out for the day.

Of course, many people buy bottled water because they enjoy drinking sparkling water.

If you prefer chilled or sparkling water, you can enjoy that more conveniently than ever before by combining a purifier with our new Quatreau SmartTap™ drinks station which gives chilled, sparkling and / or ambient water at the touch of a button. Or  Quatreau Touch, our touchscreen tap that installs over your kitchen sink for boiling, chilled and sparkling water, hand and dish washing.

So, there’s really no need to ever buy plastic bottled water again.

We take steps to reduce the environmental impact of producing our taps, too by manufacturing them within 10 miles of our base in Surrey using solid 316 stainless steel for lower environmental impact compared to plating. And with energy efficiency in mind, the boiling function of Quatreau Touch uses 33% less energy than other hot water taps.

Call us now on 01483 617 000 or email We’d be delighted to help you reduce your environmental impact and advise on installation of a tap water purifier and / or multifunction tap in your home, office or hospitality venue.

London’s bottled water waste is out of control

“London’s plastic water bottle waste is out of control”, reports the Guardian this week.

In their article highlighting London as having the worst recycling rates of anywhere in the UK, the Guardian reveals that Londoners drink more plastic bottled water than anyone else in England.

Plastic waste is out of control in London,” said Leonie Cooper, who chairs the London assembly environment committee. “It litters our parks, pollutes the Thames, harms marine life and adds waste to London’s landfill sites, which may be full by 2025.

“We have to turn the situation around. Firstly, Londoners need an alternative to buying bottles of water – this is a crucial part of the solution”.

The environment committee recommends that tap water should be made more readily available, but here at The Pure H2O Co., we – and no doubt you, our readers – are all too aware of the potential health risks associated with drinking tap water’s myriad of impurities including drug residues, heavy metals, asbestos, pesticides, chemicals and petroleum derivatives.

There is an environmentally friendly, sustainable, easy, affordable solution. It solves the plastic bottled water crisis. It frees you from the health compromises involved in drinking tap water. It’s RODI Pure H2O. That’s tap water purified of 99.99% of all naturally occurring and man-made impurities, using our patented Reverse Osmosis with De-Ionisation purification process.

Our technologically advanced water purification systems fit conveniently into your home and supply unlimited quantities of 99.99% pure water, from as little as £1 a day. Our systems are designed specifically for treating UK tap water, they are the most advanced, water-efficient systems available and last longer than any others on the market. Even better, our warranty offers peace of mind, backed up by our excellent engineers who service your system once a year to keep it producing pure water, day after day.

If you’re one of the sensible, health-conscious individuals – Londoner or not! – who likes to have water with you during the day, simply fill up a plastic-free, re-usable bottle from your Pure H2O system before you leave home. In fact, RODI Pure H2O is purer by far than all bottled water brands. It’s a win-win.

Ditch plastic bottled water, for good. Enjoy Pure H2O – ethical, healthy, safe water. If you’d like to rent or buy a tap water purifier, enquire today by calling us on 01483 617 000, fill in our contact form or visit our website for further details.

Bottled Water Is Degrading The Environment

You might have read ‘The Cold Truth About Our Thirst For Bottled Water’ – an article in the Guardian newspaper by journalist Lucy Siegle, alerting us to the cold fact that our demand for plastic bottled water is polluting the environment and degrading natural resources.

When he was Minister for the Environment, Phil Woolas went so far as to say that the amount of money spent on mineral water ‘borders on being morally unacceptable’. And we would agree.

Siegle reminds us that our hydration needs can be met from a source that is ‘rigorously tested by the Drinking Water Inspectorate and operates in a supremely low-carbon way’ – i.e. tap water.

However, whilst being a better environmental choice than bottled water, tap water poses significant problems; it contains residues of prescribed medications such as Prozac, contraceptive hormones and animal hormones from farming which all pass through sewage treatment plants untouched.

Such plants do not routinely text for the neurotoxic blue-green algae Cyanobacteria, which has been linked to Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease and cannot completely remove the slug pesticide metaldehyde, which in some areas exceeds UK and European standards. What’s more, tap water may contain carcinogens from the petro-chemical industry, asbestos, fluoride and aluminium.

We simply don’t know what the long term affects are of drinking this cocktail of impurities, both man-made and those existing already in nature. We believe that there are no acceptable levels of impurities in the water we drink.

So, what that’s the answer if you care about the environment AND your health? RODI Pure H2O.

Simply, this is water as nature intended it, free from all the impurities and contaminants found in tap water. And, additionally, no Total Dissolved Solids (TDS). (If you’re concerned about getting enough minerals and think bottled water might be a good source, read this article which debunks the mineral myth).

Our patented Reverse Osmosis with De-Ionisation process purifies tap water with a system that typically installs under your kitchen sink. It removes chlorine and organic impurities, microorganisms, scale, heavy metals, gases, nitrates, volatile organic compounds and oestrogens.

The result is Pure H2O, the purest water available.

Pure H2O is the environmentally responsible alternative to bottled water – no plastics and a massive 95+% reduction in your carbon footprint.

Our very own Quatreau Tap provides the complete answer for people who want the option of Sparkling water – it delivers RODI pure water as Boiling, Sparkling, Chilled and Hot & Cold. Click here to find out more.

Pure H2O is the totally safe, environmentally responsible alternative to both tap and bottled water. The only alternative, in fact.
