Central heating indoors and cold weather outdoors means dry skin on the face and hands, with tightness, redness, irritation, itchiness and sensitivity even for ‘normal’ skins, let alone sensitive skins and those with conditions like eczema which are prone to flare ups due to environmental conditions.
We’ve got 3 top tips for beautiful winter skin – and naturally, they’re all about water.
1. Hydrate – from the inside. Moisturisers, serums, toners and the like claim to boost hydration, plumpness and softness, but the most fundamental, beneficial thing you can do for your skin – and your health overall – is hydrate from the inside out by drinking plenty of water. And if you’re prone to break outs even with dry winter skin, good news – hydration boosts clarity, too. We know that RODI pure water is best – free from impurities like pesticides, petrochemicals, medications and metals – its pure, hydrating and supports your health.
2. Moderate water temperature. A long soak in a hot bath or standing under a steaming shower is bliss after being out in the cold, but really hot water is your enemy, not your friend – it breaks down the skin’s natural lipid barrier, resulting in dryer skin that’s more easily irritated. So don’t have the hottest bath you can bear, just one that’s soothingly warm. For handwashing in the kitchen, Quatreau – our multifunction kitchen tap – is a big help as it delivers the perfect water temperature right away (as well as instant Boiling, Sparkling and Chilled filtered and pure water) – thanks to it thermostatic control pre-set to the perfect temperature.
3. Invest in a softener. 60% percent of the UK’s population live in hard water areas. Softeners remove hard water impurities that create lime scale and scum and contribute to dry skin, leaving soft, hydrated skin, manageable hair, and the great news is it’s effective with eczema and psoriasis. Research suggests that contact with hard water can exacerbate eczema, either because you have to use more soap to get a lather, or because the scum particles of hard water itself (which stay on materials such as clothes and bed linen after laundry day) irritate the skin.
So, that’s 3 ways to combat dry, irritated skin this winter:
1: Hydrate with Pure Water – we have 3 purifiers to suit your needs and budget, all with a monthly rental option.
2: Moderate water temperature – our Quatreau Tap helps in the kitchen by dispensing the perfect pre-set temperature for hand washing and rinsing.
3: Invest in a softener for calmer, softer skin, even if you suffer from eczema or psoriasis.
